It’s very difficult to hold a stare for very long. We tend to blink or become distracted. It is also a very inefficient way of looking at the world. Scanning our surroundings gives us the chance to see a wide range of interesting things that could be useful, helpful or rewarding. When we do single one thing out for particular attention then everything else fades in comparison. We start to notice details that we had overlooked before but taking a step back and appreciating the complete picture, the focused and unfocused can be surprisingly beautiful.
